Early in my career I realised that I could not achieve anything without the people around me. Not only were they the most interesting part of my work they were also the most challenging.
I have worked for a number of leading organisations including Whitbread, The Burton Group, Argos, Thomas Pink, FremantleMedia and LVMH Group (Louis Vuitton) as I developed my HR career through to appointment as a Director. I have been fortunate to work in large, people focused, organisations as well as ambitious rapidly expanding small companies. My search for challenge led me to take the ultimate step in 2006 and open my own consulting company, Melrose HR Ltd.
My experience as a business consultant focusing on small to medium sized companies has given me a great insight into the incredible potential people have in organisations where they are informed, encouraged, challenged and developed.
I lived and worked abroad for the first 10 years of my career. The experience of working with people in a variety of teams and cultures led me into an HR career on my return to the UK.
I have worked in the financial, manufacturing, travel and tourism, education, charity and not for profit sectors and became a Fellow of the CIPD in 2009. I have seen at first hand the impact that high quality HR support can have in enabling business managers to succeed.
I was motivated to set up Melrose HR Ltd when I saw the pressures that small business owners were increasingly experiencing in managing their people. I was also concerned at some of the poor HR practices I saw being promoted. Alongside my consultancy work, I am also an associate of a law firm and a secondary school governor.
